Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan has functional as well as symbolic goals for the small paper bags it’s distributing this summer in newspapers. 

The bags are part of the organization’s 24th annual Brown Bag Campaign in support of foster care, and are being distributed through the Petoskey News-Review and other publications around the region. The campaign has raised more than $224,000 for such needs. 


Monetary donations in support of foster care can be placed inside the bags and mailed to Child and Family Services.

Along with funding support, Child and Family Services is interested in reaching out to people who’d consider becoming foster parents. 

“It’s also a reminder that we need people that have the room in their hearts and homes to become foster and adoptive parents to them,” Child and Family Services chief executive officer Jim Scherrer said. “We are grateful to everyone who has helped make this effort so successful. We’re hoping for a stellar 24th year.”
