Drama, chaos and frustration ran high on the premises of the controversial Nagpur College of Homoeopathy on Thursday. As the state-appointed administrator reached to take charge of the college, several students and teachers came to witness the moment that would have signified an end to their troubles. However, the anticlimax came soon enough with all of them finding the college premises locked away. The police officials present at the scene, however, spoke in two different tongues, claiming they were trying to help but at the same time preventing any action against the college administration.
On Wednesday, Dr SubhashRaut was appointed as administrator for the college by the state government. When he reached the college, he found it locked. The scene was the same on Thursday as well. When asked about it, the principal of the college RR Balpande said he had no idea and that the college was locked by the trustee GhanshyamdasPanpaliya, the chairman of SatchikitsaPrasarakMandal that runs the college. However, the trustee denied having locked the premises, saying he was 'no peon to be responsible for locking and unlocking the premises'.
The appointment of the administrator was among the long-standing demands of the teachers which came as a result of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) disaffiliating the college after they found it severely understaffed. The teachers also had a slew of issues against the management including non-payment of salaries for almost a year and not promoting the deserving teachers. What happened on Thursday was not much different from what had happened in 2007 when the state government had appointed Dr Meera Aurangabadkar as administrator of the college.
