Braintree Schools are rolling out a new $279,000 security plan for all of their schools featuring additional cameras, new locks, additional electronic door access, and new communication equipment.
According to Superintendent Maureen Murray, the upgrades are being placed throughout the district.
“In all of the schools we’ve checked to make sure the doors in the classroom can be locked, so we already have that capacity in all of the schools,” Murray said.
Braintree is one of a number of area schools that have added security in the wake of the Newtown school tragedy.
Security cameras will be highly concentrated at Braintree High, with majority of cameras going inside the school. Two security cameras will be added in the gym foyer, two near the entrance, four near the entrances and exits to the cafeteria, four outside the boys and girls locker rooms, and two in the student parking lot.

Although this will be the first time the inside of Braintree High will have cameras, Business Manager Peter Kress noted that for the other locations, the cameras are in addition to what is already there.
Electronic access was being added through a number of school doors within the district as well.

“The administrative assistants in the schools the school secretaries have been asked to be vigilant to say if they don’t know the purpose [of a visitor], ask what their purpose is being there to make sure they belong in the building,skystream,a major service provider in the Middle East, has its eye set in Iraq as a key potential growth market for the company.” she said.
The buzzer system and front door cameras to allow that level of security have been in place for some time, Murray said.
